My Spotlight:

I choose to mourn by living

  • I choose to mourn by living is a poetic short film, exploring the power of being alive. It looks at how it feels to live in this world as a black woman and how choosing to live can be a form of resistance. It explores the complex nature of one’s life and how choosing to actively live it – even in hard times – can sometimes feel like a grieving process for all the things that have and could have been. The audio- visual piece aims to explore how making that choice is an act of resilience, pushing past fear, anger or sadness and instead finding the small joys in a world that actively tries to tear the black community down and making the world a better place through seeking black joy.

First exhibiting at Fleet studios as part of the Friends and family: Lagos to London exhibition in May 2025 .

Living in resistance a Friends and Family screening at Arthouse crouch-end on the 15th of October 2025.
